Explo(r/d)ing Figures of Taşkışla Workshop

26-28.11.2021 | 102B – Innovation and Modelling Lab

Instructors: Müge Halıcı (İTÜ)

The halls of Taşkışla contain various figures/statues/objects. Each may offer a small glimpse into the past, today or future. Exploring those figures or giving new meanings in alternative space is possible with Augmented Reality (AR). AR will let explorers scratch below the surface and augment them with virtual layers.

This workshop aims to provide participants learning a way of object recognition to enhance real objects via mobile device. In order to give an overview of concepts and techniques, a brief lecture on AR will be provided, then there will be hands-on experience for participants to understand the basic level knowledge of building an object recognition application. For this purpose, the interface and design possibilities in the game engine–Unity are introduced within the AR plug-in – Vuforia. Participants will be asked to group themselves into design teams of 2 to 3 people.
