Seminar – Adonis Haidar

The title: History of Modelling and Emergence of BIM

The session will take the audience through the history of modelling as a central activity within the architectural design process. It will start by introducing the concept of vernacular architecture as the most popular method of architecture in history. It will then talk about design communication that includes scaled drawings, to then introduce modelling as a concept and CAD-based modelling while discussing the benefits and limitations for each design communication method. From that point, the concept of information modelling and object-based modelling will be introduced as the foundation for defining BIM, and understand its tools that include, design authoring tools, auditing tools and CDE (Common Data Environment) applications.

“Adonis is an architect and a lecturer in BIM and Computational Design at the School of Architecture, University of Liverpool. His primary role at the University is directing the MSc BIM and Digital Transformation programme. He has a 12-year experience in learning and teaching in higher education; mainly in the subjects of BIM theories and applications, computational design, parametric modelling, building structures and architectural design studio.

Adonis holds a PhD in Architecture and Planning from the University of Salford, Manchester. His research lies in between BIM and computational design. His main research interest is scrutinising the state-of-the-art digital technologies and the cutting-edge methods applicable in architecture and construction in order to critically investigate their potential within the architectural design process and the whole project delivery, in addition to developing innovative strategies that tend to enhance the efficiency of the ‘digital’ in architectural practice and the AEC industry as a whole.

Adonis is a fellow member at HEA (UK Higher Education Academy). He holds a master’s degree in Digital Architectural Design from the University of Salford and a bachelor’s in architecture from Damascus University, followed by a ten-year professional experience in architectural practice.”
